Summary

Evelyn Hugo is finally ready to tell the truth about her glamorous and scandalous life。 But when she chooses unknown magazine reporter Monique Grant for the job, no one in the journalism community is more astounded than Monique herself。 Why her? Why now?

Monique is not exactly on top of the world。 Her husband, David, has left her, and her career has stagnated。 Regardless of why Evelyn has chosen her to write her biography, Monique is determined to use this opportunity to jumpstart her career。

Summoned to Evelyn’s Upper East Side apartment, Monique listens as Evelyn unfurls her story: from making her way to Los Angeles in the 1950s to her decision to leave show business in the late 80s, and, of course, the seven husbands along the way。 As Evelyn’s life unfolds through the decades—revealing a ruthless ambition, an unexpected friendship, and a great forbidden love—Monique begins to feel a very a real connection to the actress。 But as Evelyn’s story catches up with the present, it becomes clear that her life intersects with Monique’s own in tragic and irreversible ways。

Filled with emotional insight and written with Reid’s signature talent, this is a fascinating journey through the splendor of Old Hollywood into the harsh realities of the present day as two women struggle with what it means—and what it takes—to face the truth

What a story! Loved it, loved everything about it。 This book gripped me from the moment I started reading it and then everyday, while going through a lot of work stress, I'd come back to this book so I could just go into a different world, so I could find out more about Evelyn Hugo。 And I could just never get enough of her story。 One of the most binge-able books I've ever read。 What a story! An enticing tale about a Hollywood legend that feels so real that you'll be searching for Evelyn Hugo's filmography on Netflix once you've finished。 TJR has such a way with making complex characters that jump off the page and into your heart。 A wonderful story that will make you scream, cry, laugh and smile all at the same time。 An enticing tale about a Hollywood legend that feels so real that you'll be searching for Evelyn Hugo's filmography on Netflix once you've finished。 TJR has such a way with making complex characters that jump off the page and into your heart。 A wonderful story that will make you scream, cry, laugh and smile all at the same time。 。。。more

this book has officially broken me。 the last 100 pages is just a slurry of emotions。 the writing is exquisite and makes you want to keep on reading。 i’m usually the type of person who reads a chapter or two a day but i read a majority of the book in the last two days。

Pure perfection。 An emotional rollercoaster that is absolutely worth it。

One of the few books I’ve given 5 stars that genuinely deserved 5 stars。 I would recommend it to everyone I know。

Fabulous book! Lived up to the hype for me。 I found myself truly drawn in by Evelyn's story and the author did a great job of making her into a fully formed character。 I remember one review saying that you'll leave the book wanting to go watch some of Evelyn's movies before remembering she's fictional, and that's true for me。 I'll be thinking about this one for a long time。The only thing that didn't do it for me was the kind of odd sidetrack into Monique's race。 My understanding is that the auth Fabulous book! I thought that was a weird, kind of problematic choice。 But other than that, loved this book! 。。。more

I'm very disappointed by this book。 A friend recommended it for me and it's been on my reading list for all the hype i's been getting but it fell short。 I feel like this book was like a given story with no plot twists, no room for your thoughts to wander and i didn't even like the author's way of writing。 Even though i strongly dislike the book and i'm truly clueless on how some people actually enjoyed it, i'm not hating on it。 But i expected more。 I even finished the book thinking there was sti I'm very disappointed by this book。 A friend recommended it for me and it's been on my reading list for all the hype i's been getting but it fell short。 I feel like this book was like a given story with no plot twists, no room for your thoughts to wander and i didn't even like the author's way of writing。 Even though i strongly dislike the book and i'm truly clueless on how some people actually enjoyed it, i'm not hating on it。 But i expected more。 I even finished the book thinking there was still more。 Ngl i learnt some things from Evelyn。 If you want something from universe then you take it。 You fo whatever it takes。 However; we didn't agree on that point as i believe that doesn't apply if you're causing harm to others。 I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone and i'll keep wondering how this is a favorite book of so many。 。。。more

Who knew they were capable。 To avoid Turing this into a tiktok rant about their fetishization of gay men…。 I will simply say that this book lives up to its hype。 Although their was an odd moment in the beginning describing the main character, I enjoyed the twists and turns of the story

surprisingly i really liked this book lol :) the reason i give it 4 stars and not 5 is because it’s just not my kind of book, i usually read fantasy/mythology/ya books as i just prefer that type of story but i really enjoyed reading this, i liked how it was written and i like how the characters were flawed, it makes a nice change than having a perfect protagonist that does no wrong lol。 my favourite character was harry, he’s wholesome and was one of the only men in this book that wasn’t a dickhe surprisingly i really liked this book lol :) the reason i give it 4 stars and not 5 is because it’s just not my kind of book, i usually read fantasy/mythology/ya books as i just prefer that type of story but i really enjoyed reading this, i liked how it was written and i like how the characters were flawed, it makes a nice change than having a perfect protagonist that does no wrong lol。 my favourite character was harry, he’s wholesome and was one of the only men in this book that wasn’t a dickhead😂also the twist at the end wasn’t as shocking as i thought it would be, maybe it was just too hyped up or i don’t get shocked easily lol i mean it was a decent twist that i didn’t see coming but yeh, overall i quite liked it, it was interesting to read something like this as i never usually do :) 。。。more

Love story A dynamic and contradicting character, Hugos many loves teach us that sexuality and intimacy can be worlds apart and also one and the same。 Also, the heart wants what it wants regardless of the rules applied by society。

Ugh。 I loved so much about this book! It was not at all what I thought it would be about, but it was a fun read。 I would totally recommend this one!

Overly hyped book that I pushed myself to finish (audio version)。I thought some things were done well but I also thought other things were done poorly。 I did not like the relationship between Evelyn and Monique; Monique was such a wimp, always putting herself down for asking questions。The longer I made it through the book, the more uninterested I became in her never-ending love life and marriages。

Okay i took a break while reading this and I had a hard time getting into it a little。 When i got 2/3 of the way through I could not put it down。 This book was good but not 5 stars in my opinion。 I gave it 4 stars only because of the ending。 It was exactly what I wanted out of the ending of this book and I am happy that Evelyn and Monique both got the closure they deserved。 TJR’s characterization is always incredible and Harry and Evelyn was the most amazing, well written example of platonic sou Okay i took a break while reading this and I had a hard time getting into it a little。 When i got 2/3 of the way through I could not put it down。 This book was good but not 5 stars in my opinion。 I gave it 4 stars only because of the ending。 It was exactly what I wanted out of the ending of this book and I am happy that Evelyn and Monique both got the closure they deserved。 TJR’s characterization is always incredible and Harry and Evelyn was the most amazing, well written example of platonic soulmates。 it was really beautifully written and I loved the style she chose to write this book。 This book was nothing like I had read before and I really enjoyed the plot and characters TJR chose to include and how at the end of the day Evelyn did not care about her money or fame, but only about the ones she loved。 Even though I only gave it 4 starts I still highly recommended this book。 。。。more

This book will get you thinking about the manufacturing of Hollywood relationships (back then and now) and the lengths that some actors will go to protect their identity, sexuality, and the truth。 If the central character had a motto to live by, then it would surely be this: "Wake up。 Be a Baddass。 Repeat。" This book will get you thinking about the manufacturing of Hollywood relationships (back then and now) and the lengths that some actors will go to protect their identity, sexuality, and the truth。 If the central character had a motto to live by, then it would surely be this: "Wake up。 Be a Baddass。 Repeat。" 。。。more
